What is Reiki?

Essentially the healer is simply acting as a sort of 'transformer' - providing a boost to the client's natural ability to heal themselves. Regardless of what type of treatment we opt for when our body/mind is in crisis it is ultimately our bodies/immune system which does the actual healing, not the drugs or the pins or the healer - all any of it ever does is provide a window when the body's defence mechanisms can do repair work. A clear analogy would be a hospital in a war zone. If the staff of the hospital are expending all their energy trying to fight off the attacking enemy they can't spend anytime tending to the patients. What any successful treatment does is divert the attacker away from the hospital so that the doctors and nurses can tend to the patients without interruption.

There are many abstract "New Age" explanations as to what Reiki is and many of them will do nothing to convince a sceptic. Personal experience is the only thing that will. Kym will never turn you away if you genuinely lack money and is often willing to give free 'test-sessions' to those who are unsure if they can gain anything from a treatment. Reiki is not a substitute for other medical treatments but it cannot adversely effect them either. Even if the treatment were doing nothing more than relaxing you, in today's stress-rife world that wouldn't be a bad thing, now would it?
